Growth, downsizing & relocation

Relocation and reinstallation by BNR

Office interiors · Relocation, growth and downsizing

Letting your interior move with your organisation

You are expanding, you are downsizing or you are moving to a new building. BNR takes care of the relocation, growth and downsizing of your office interior, from inventory to handover. With our own installation team, so that the downtime stays limited.

What it is about

First take inventory, then move

A relocation or a change in the number of workstations starts with the inventory you already have. We go through the existing furniture with you and divide it into three piles: what comes along and is reassembled, what first needs refurbishment, and what no longer fits. Only then is it clear what really has to be ordered in addition.

With growth the gain lies in connecting to what is already there: modular desk systems can be extended and stock items are quickly available, so that extra workstations continue in the same style and dimensions. With downsizing it is the opposite movement: fewer workstations on the same square metres calls for a new layout, in which space that is freed up comes back as a meeting, flexible or call spot and surplus furniture is taken back or responsibly removed.

The moving itself is done by our own fitters: dismantling, packing, transporting and then rebuilding and adjusting in the new place. That also applies to a relocation within the same building, for example when a department moves to another floor.

This page is about the moment when the number or the location of the workstations changes. If you are furnishing an entire building or a complete department, that goes via project furnishing. If you stay in the same building and only the layout or the look changes, read on at refurbishing and restyling. What happens to furniture that is disposed of — refurbishment, reupholstering and take-back — is set out at sustainable office interiors.

Three situations

What applies in your case

Growth

Extra workstations in the same style as your existing interior. Modular desk systems can be extended, stock items are quickly available and you can purchase in phases.

Downsizing

Fewer workstations, the same square metres. We divide the space up again, combine workstations with meeting or flexible spots and take over surplus furniture or remove it responsibly. What remains usable goes back into use after reupholstering or refurbishment.

Relocation and reinstallation

Dismantling, transport, reassembly and furnishing at the new location, including reconnecting the electrification. Also relocation within the same building, for example a department to another floor.

This is how a relocation project goes

Six steps

1

Inventory

We map out your current furniture: what comes along, what is replaced, what is eligible for refurbishment.

2

Floor plan of the new location

Layout of the new space based on your work processes, the number of workstations and the meeting and storage space required.

3

Planning and preparation

A detailed schedule for dismantling, transport and installation, with one point of contact and fixed dates.

4

Dismantling and transport

Our installation team dismantles, packs and transports the furniture.

5

Reassembly and furnishing

Assembly according to the floor plan, including new additions, electrification and cable management.

6

Handover

A check against the agreed layout, removal of packaging material and handover. Office furniture carries a 5-year warranty.

Adding workstations

Desks, sit-stand desks, office chairs · matching what is already there

With growth the question is not only how many workstations are added, but also whether they look out of place next to the existing configuration. We look up the dimensions, tabletop colour and range of your current desks and order additional items. If that range is no longer available, we look for a configuration that fits alongside it.

With a modular range it can also be done without a complete desk. The Flex 3+ corner add-on T-frame is a separate extension top 60 cm deep with its own electrically adjustable leg, with which you extend an existing Flex 3+ desk or bench into a corner workstation. The top is available in all 28 tabletop colours of the range.

Space that is freed up when you shrink

Rezoning · flexible workspaces · meeting and call spots

Anyone who downsizes has square metres left over. That space is usable: part of the workstations makes way for a meeting table, a touchdown spot or a phone booth, and with desk screens and partitions you zone the floor again without building work. Often that can be done with furniture you already have.

If workstations go because people work from home more often, the question shifts from number to type of place.

Archive, cabinets and files

Cabinets, safes, filing cabinets · emptied before transport

Cabinets and the archive are the most work in a relocation: they have to be empty before they can be moved and stand at the right height again in the new place. We agree in advance who empties what, move the cabinets and readjust them. If there is too little storage space, we add to it.

If the number of employees changes, the number of lockers changes with it. The Q4 locker cabinet can be built up modularly in height and width, with 2 to 5 compartments per column, so that you add a column later in the same version.

Power and data in the new place

Electrification, cable management, bench rails · reconnected

A configuration that was neatly tidied away at the old location is rarely right straight after a relocation. At the reassembly we include electrification and cable management: grommets, cable ducts and socket blocks to suit the new layout, so that no cables run across the floor.

If a bench row gets longer, the same applies: two Flex 3+ bench configurations are joined with a connector, with a linking duct for the cable routing in between.

Good to know

Four things that make a relocation run more smoothly

Take inventory before you choose

A list of what you have, with quantities and condition, determines how much you really need to order in addition. Often part of it will last for years after refurbishment or reupholstering.

Choose one moment for the switch

Dismantling, transport and reassembly in one continuous block gives less interruption than days spread out. If it runs over several days, agree in advance where the furniture stands in between. In larger buildings we work floor by floor.

Empty cabinets and the archive beforehand

This part is what most often makes a schedule run over. Agree per cabinet who empties it and where the contents end up at the new location.

Take the layout into account, not the floor plan

The same number of workstations does not automatically fit in a new space. Columns, window sections and walking routes determine the configuration; that is why we first make a layout plan. An on-site workstation consultation is the first step.
