Working ergonomically

Anyone who works at a desk for long periods will sooner or later notice poor posture in their neck, back, and shoulders. Ergonomic working starts with a workspace that suits the user's body and way of working — in accordance with OSH (ARBO) guidelines and NPR 1813 standards.

Sit-stand desks with monitors and ergonomic office chairs
The foundation of a healthy workspace

The right office chair

Adjustable seat height so that feet are flat on the floor, lumbar support that follows the natural curve of the back, armrests at elbow height, and two to three fingers' space behind the knees.

Desk at working height

Elbows should rest on the desk at a 90-degree angle — for most people, this is 72 to 78 cm. A sit-stand desk offers the most freedom to alternate positions.

Monitor & input

Screen at arm's length with the top edge at eye level, keyboard directly in front of you, and mouse next to it at the same height. A monitor arm makes this easily adjustable.

Five things to check today
1

Feet flat on the floor

If you can't, lower the chair or use a footrest.

2

Forearms horizontal

Elbows at a 90-degree angle, shoulders relaxed and lowered.

3

Screen at eye level

The top edge of the screen at eye level, at arm's length.

4

No glare

Position the screen perpendicular to the window and supplement daylight with task lighting.

5

Change posture

Follow the 20-20-20 rule and stand up every hour. Variety is more effective than any chair.
