Office furniture

From a single office chair to a fully furnished office

This page is the guide to our office furniture range: desks, office chairs, cabinets, meeting furniture, counters, canteen furnishing and acoustics. If you know what you are looking for, you are one click away from the right category. If you are looking for guidance with a complete interior, read on at office interiors. BNR delivers throughout the Netherlands and has been active for over 35 years.

Where do you start?

First the segment, then the version

Office furniture falls into a few segments that each call for something different. At a workstation hours of use weigh most heavily: there people sit and type for eight hours a day, so adjustability and seating comfort determine the choice. In a meeting and reception space the sitting time is shorter and appearance, stackability and the number of people at the table weigh more heavily. In the canteen and the lounge it is mainly about maintenance and cleaning, and about furniture that can cope with varying use. If you choose everything from one segment, you often buy too light or too heavy.

For office chairs there are two standards that give direction. NEN-EN 1335 is the European standard for office work chairs and sets out dimensions, safety requirements and test methods; the standard distinguishes versions that differ from each other in adjustability. NPR 1813 is the Dutch practice guideline that goes with it: from the margins of the standard it selects the adjustment ranges that suit the body dimensions of the Dutch user. If someone sits at a screen all day, take a chair to NPR 1813 as the starting point. For shorter periods of sitting — a second workstation, a flexible workspace, a counter — a lighter version is sufficient.

Then comes the calculation: which tabletop size and shape fit the space, how many linear metres of archive and cabinet space you need, and how open or screened off the work floor should be. If you are torn between two models, you can try sitting and standing at them in our 1,000 m² showroom at Westbaan 170 in Moordrecht.

What to watch out for

Six points that determine the choice

Hours of use determine the chair

Choose an office chair based on hours of use and on standards. For workstations where people sit all day, chairs to NPR 1813 are the starting point; for shorter periods of sitting a lighter version is sufficient.

Tabletop size and shape first

First determine the size and shape of the tabletop: straight, corner or duo. Then choose fixed or height-adjustable. An electric sit-stand desk makes it possible to alternate between sitting and standing in the same place.

Storage in linear metres

First calculate how many linear metres of archive and cabinet space you need and then choose the cabinet form: hinged door, sliding door or tambour door. Drawer units take care of the daily storage at the workstation.

Standards and inspections

NEN-EN 1335 sets out dimensions, safety and test methods for office work chairs. NPR 1813 supplements that standard with adjustment ranges geared to the Dutch user. We state per chair what applies.

Acoustics and screening

Acoustic panels, partitions and desk screens determine how open or screened off the work floor becomes. They dampen conversations and reverberation and at the same time mark out the zones on the floor.

Lead time and installation

Items from stock are delivered and installed within 5 to 10 business days by our own installation team. Office furniture carries a 5-year warranty.

The range

Four groups, each with their own choices

Desks and workstations

Straight, corner or duo · fixed height, crank or electric

Start with the tabletop size and shape, because these follow from the space and from what has to fit on the desk. Then choose the base: fixed height for a workstation with a single user, a crank if the height needs to change occasionally, electric if there is daily switching between sitting and standing. For a new workstation complete in one go there are sets of desk and chair.

Office chairs

From flexible workspace to a full working day · NEN-EN 1335 and NPR 1813

The hours spent sitting per day determine how much adjustability you need. For a full working day at a screen, a chair to NPR 1813 is the starting point: seat height, seat depth, backrest and armrests can then be adjusted to the user. For a second workstation, a flexible workspace or a counter, a lighter version may suffice. We adjust the chair to the user on delivery.

Cabinets, storage and acoustics

Calculating linear metres · working open or screened off

You calculate cabinet space in linear metres: how many files, dossiers and materials have to be accommodated, and how much of that has to be able to be closed off. Only then do you choose the cabinet form and the finish. Cabinets often do double duty as space dividers. Acoustic panels, partitions and desk screens complement that: they dampen sound and determine how open the work floor feels.

Meetings, reception and canteen

Number of people at the table · presentable and cleanable spaces

For a meeting room you start with the number of people at the table and with the circulation route around it; our meeting tables can be filtered by number of people. In the entrance the counter determines the first impression and the working height for whoever sits behind it. In the canteen and the waiting area, cleanability, stackability and comfort come first, because the use there varies around the clock.
