Spirit office chair

The Spirit has a backrest with the patented Freedom flexible torsion point: the back follows your movement without you having to adjust anything. The upholstered back has an integrated coat hook, and the Dynamico synchronised mechanism with two-lever operation locks the backrest in five positions.

Upholstery

The fabric group determines the price. Within a group every colour costs the same. You choose the colour after ordering; we will contact you about this. All colours per fabric group are shown with the photos, and the complete fabric chart can be downloaded: fabric chart (pdf).

What does the Martindale figure mean?

In the Martindale test a fabric sample is rubbed back and forth under a weight until wear appears. The figure is the number of rubs the fabric achieves. Below 25,000 is light domestic use, 25,000 to 40,000 normal office use, above 40,000 intensive office use and above 100,000 suitable for 24-hour use such as control rooms and shift work. A higher figure says something about wear resistance, not about how the fabric feels.

Differences between the materials

• Fabric is woven, breathes well and comes in the widest range of colours. Polyester (AL, AB, ME, CH, ST) is strong and colourfast.
• Faux leather (NX, SC) is a woven backing with a coating. It wipes clean with a damp cloth, but it breathes less well than fabric.
• Wool blends (MF, CS, SY, RM) feel fuller and are less prone to pilling. They are somewhat more sensitive to stains.
• Genuine leather (SX, PA, TS) is grain leather from the Italian tannery Dani. It breathes, adapts to body temperature and develops a patina over time. At 1.4 to 1.6 mm Box Land is the sturdiest, Panama at 1.0 to 1.2 mm the most supple.

All fabrics and leathers comply with EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2, the European standard for the fire behaviour of furniture upholstery.
